Student and teacher accounts are authenticated via SAML version v2.0 when establishing a single sign-on to Canvas and DVUSD managed websites. All students have a unique username and password. Passwords meet strict creation policies. Student devices are filtered while on DVUSD property and also at home with their school-issued devices following CIPA compliant internet filtering guidelines. DVUSD is a full K-12 one-to-one device district, and as such, lower grade bands will be able to take AOI courses to support their learning.
External links that are used in courses are vetted by DVUSD certified teachers teaching the course. Typical external links such as Khan Academy and .edu sites are used as supplemental resources for students. The Aspire Director and Principal complete classroom observations and evaluations each year. Additionally, DVUSD curriculum specialists audit courses in their content area.
Currently, 7-12 grade students take a student orientation course with a digital citizenship module embedded to ensure understanding of safe internet practices. Discussion forms within the courses are restricted to student and teacher view only.
Students have the ability to report a broken link to their teacher, which is the best course of action to fix the link if needed. Teachers frequently use the verify course links feature in Canvas to quickly run a report on all broken links.
