Meet Your 8th Grade Team!!
Mrs. Wojciechowski - Language ArtsMy name is Allyson Wojciechowski and this will be my third year teaching at Sunset Ridge. I am ecstatic to continue working with such a solid team of 8th grade teachers and to teach my favorite subject: language arts!I am an Arizona native and I not only love this beautiful state I live in but also this district and community! I grew up in the Deer Valley School District and have long since dreamt of teaching here and being an active member in the community. After graduating from Deer Valley High School, I attended Arizona State University to receive my Bachelors Degree in May 2016. Go Devils! I hope to someday return to my alma mater to receive my Masters Degree.I have a lifelong love of learning, a trait I hope to instill in my students. While at college I set rigorous goals for myself and I plan to do the same for all of my students and will ensure that all of my students have the necessary supports to reach these goals. Eighth grade is a time of immense change, maturation, and growth and I cannot wait to take full advantage of what can be a tumultuous time and make it positive for my students! On a personal note, I married the love of my life in June 2016. We got married at Garlands Oak Creek Lodge, with a gorgeous backdrop of red rocks and the creek murmuring behind us! My husband and I love finding little places like Garlands to relax or places like Cathedral Rock to hike, and we frequently make road trips up north to beat the heat. Quite a bit of our free time is spent with our dog, a two-year-old, long-haired Chihuahua named Phoebe!Let's make this an awesome school year!
Ms. Clarkson - 8th Grade Math
Hello! My name is Christine Clarkson and I teach 8th grade math. I am looking forward to another wonderful year. I am also excited to be a part of this strong and dedicated 8th grade team at Sunset Ridge!!
I am originally from Schaumburg, Illinois—just outside of Chicago. I came to Arizona in 1995 to attend ASU (Go Devils!) If you have a love of Portillo’s chocolate cake or Lou Malnatti’s deep dish pizza, we can be best friends! I live in the Tramonto community and both of my daughters attend Sunset Ridge.
This will be my 19th year teaching and I've taught everything from 3rd to 8th grade.
Math is truly my passion and I love to work with the kids on problem solving. We take difficult problems and break them down and analyze what we know and what we can try to do to solve the problem. I encourage the kids to talk to one another and work on getting closer to a solution that will work. I encourage the kids to find new ways to solve the problems because one of the many beauties of math is that there is rarely just one way to get to the correct answer! I love to see all of the different ways the kids think and there are times when they show me new ways to work on a problem! And we always go back to check our answers! Do they make sense? I love it when a kid gets an answer and then says, “Wait, that wouldn’t make sense!” and then goes back to rework it. That truly shows understanding in my eyes!
Mr. Strauss - Science
Hello and welcome to 8th Grade - my name is Paul Strauss and I will be your science teacher this year (naturally the most awesome subject!). This will be my 15th year at Sunset Ridge and I have loved being a part of this great community. Besides my bachelors degree from New Mexico State University I also hold my Masters in Middle Level Education, meaning I know very well what it means to be a young adolescent (something I have even been accused of being from time to time). I am also currently working on my 2nd Masters with this one being for Educational Leadership.I have lived in Phoenix for 28 years after growing up and going to school in New Mexico (I love the southwest!). Several years back I decided to leave an 8 year career in the high technology industry to become an 8th grade science teacher and I have never regretted it once. I can think of no other profession in the world that has this much excitement and allows me the opportunity to help influence society's future (a responsibility I take very seriously).I will tell you right now that I plan on challenging you every step of the way because it is my goal to bring out the best in you both academically and personally. But I also promise you that we will have a lot of fun along the way (trust me, I can be quite goofy). Science is such an awesome subject that it allows you to explore the possibilities and hopefully recapture your inquisitive spirit. We are going to learn a lot of things TOGETHER this year because I know I will learn and grow right along with you.Personally I love hanging out with my dog Buffett and we like to spend as much time outdoors as possible. I love reading and going to movies and I can usually be found at one of the many coffee shops around town or hanging out at live music festivals whenever I get the chance.Get ready for a GREAT year!
Mr. Bowman - Social Studies
Hello! My name is Sean Bowman and I am your 8th Grade Social Studies teacher. I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you. This 8th Grade team is amazing and I feel very lucky to be a part of it.
I graduated from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University. I have a highly qualified endorsement in middle grades Social Sciences as well as a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.
I love bringing history to life! I strive to make the content relevant to your lives in hopes you will make a personal connection to what you have learned. Be ready to have fun as we will be doing a lot of hands on activities and projects this year. Please be advised however that this class will be very challenging, and I hold all of my students to high expectations.
On a more personal note, I have been married to my lovely wife for 9 years. We have a 7 year old son, Maxx, as well as a miniature schnauzer named Charger and a cat named Walrus. I moved back to Phoenix in June of 2008 after living in San Diego coaching football. Prior to that I played NCAA football at the University of Wyoming where I majored in Communications. Along with football, surfing, golf, and skateboarding, I play in a “reggae/rock” band and love spending time with family and friends.Along with teaching 8th Grade Social Studies here at Sunset Ridge, I am also the Student Council Advisor, Athletic Director, and 8th Grade Campus Leadership Representative.
