I love to teach! It's been my pleasure to teach children in the Deer Valley USD for more than 34 years.
It is important that ALL students have the opportunity to learn in a safe and comfortable environment. No one has the right to interfere with the learning of others, therefore, I have some basic classroom guidelines that I expect to be followed. The most important classroom rule is that students demonstrate RESPECT for one another, themselves, and the teacher. If this occurs, there won't be a reason to implement logical consequences. The following behaviors will be obvious in a classroom where respect is given: students staying on task, students patiently waiting their turn, students sitting properly, students entering and leaving the classroom quietly, students being considerate of others, and students completing their tasks. Should a child become disruptive, I will give a verbal reminder. If the behavior continues, I will visually remind the student by putting his/her name on the board. If the interruptions continue, privileges will be taken away and the student will write a letter explaining his/her behavior choices and parents are required to sign and send the letter back to school. I believe in logical consequences and communicating with parents about their child's classroom behaviors. I believe in encouraging the positive behaviors rather than pointing out negative ones. However, I do believe that children must know the boundaries and expectations early so that they can exist within the limits comfortably. Again, thank you for the privilege of teaching your child this year. I hope that together, we can truly assist your child in developing academically in a positive way.
