My Background, Interests and Educational Philosophy

Hello and welcome back!  I am so excited about this year and am looking forward to meeting all of you.  We are going to have a great year learning about Physics, Chemistry, Genetics, and Evolution and Adaptations.  So who am I?  I am originally from northern Minnesota and I moved to Phoenix from Alaska.  I have been teaching for 28 years.  I taught 4 years at DVHS, 4 years at Hillcrest Middle School and 18 at Highland Lakes.  All of which I have taught 8th grade science.  I have probably had one of your brothers or sisters in my class!  I received my AA degree from Phoenix College, my BA from Grand Canyon University and my Masters degree from ASU. I have been married for 29 years and have one daughter, Kelsey. She recently graduated from NAU.  She is pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy. I have three dogs, a Shitzue, Princess, and two pugs, Parkie and Holly.
I am very passionate about my football.  My favorite team is the Arizona Cardinals because I believe in supporting the home team.  We have been season ticket holders ever since the Cardinals have been in Arizona.  My winter jacket says Phoenix Cardinals!!  You don't remember the team being called the Phoenix Cardinals because you weren't born yet!!  When the Cardinals went to the Super bowl in 2008, my family went to Tampa Bay and to the GAME.  It was the most devasting loss .  I mourned for weeks. In addition I absolutely love to cook.  My favorite TV channel is the Food Network.  I can have it on all day and write down recipes.  If I wasn't a teacher I would be a chef.  Cooking is a passion.  I also enjoy sitting by the pool and reading.  I read 35 books this summer.  I also enjoy traveling.  This year we went to the Mayan Rivera for a week.  It was absolutely gorgeous.  We had a wonderful time as a family.
