Our field trip for this Wednesday, November 20th, has been rescheduled for December 16th.
Our third family project comes home today. Please help your child decorate their stocking. They need their name big on the white part of the stocking and get creative with the rest. Please use a piece of cardboard if you are gluing or painting so the stocking does not stick together. Also, we are asking each child to bring in 27 small goodies to stuff in the stockings. Please no food or candy.
Link to amazing website to find a just right book for your child's DRA level:
Your child has a DRA level that is just right for them. Please email/call me if you would like this DRA level. They can independently read a book at their level. When they are reading with you, they should be reading a level above their independent level because you are there to support them.
This website shows books at all different DRA levels and where you can buy them. You don't have to buy them, you can check them out at the library.
It was great to see everyone at Open House last night. The kids are so adorable and I can not wait to get to know them this year. We are going to have a great year.
If your child did not bring supplies last night, they may bring them tomorrow. If you could do me a huge favor and make sure all their person items (scissors, couple pencils, etc.) are opened and in their pencil box. Also if their headphones can be out of the package and in a labeled ziplock bag that would be great. It is difficult for me to open all the supplies on the first day!
Remember to have your child bring a healthy snack everyday. Please make sure that they can eat this independently and that it is not a messy snack (fruit packs with juice, etc.). They will eat these at afternoon snack time. The afternoon recess/ snack will be in the classroom or on the playground depending on weather.
I will see you tomorrow morning very excited to start this school year! I will meet your child on the elementary playground. I will have a sign and my name is on the ground where the children are to line up. I will be out there starting at 8:30 for this first week. After that, I will meet them out there at 8:40 when the bell rings.
It is important for the children to start the year independently, so I will ask that if you walk your child to the playground, you say goodbye as we start to walk in. That way the children will enter the hallway and our classroom as a group and we will not have the painful parent goodbyes.
I will dismiss the children at 3:30 and walk them out through the entrance between the office and our 500 hall. Please make sure your child know how they are getting home and where to meet you everyday. Lots of reminders. I will be out there with them the first two weeks to make sure they have their routine down. If anything changes with pickup, please feel free to email me or send a message through Remind to let me know and I will let your kiddo know the new plan.
If you have not joined Remind, please consider doing so. I am pretty good about sending email reminders and updating my website, but once in a while I remember something later in the evening and will send messages through Remind. You can text the number: 81010 and leave the message: @mrshowey1 -OR- you can email the address: firstname.lastname@example.org
and leave the subject line blank.
If you know someone who should receive this email and has not, please let them know to get me their email address. I will post this on my website as well.
See you tomorrow!!!!!
Here is a list of the Fry's Sight Words. We are still concentrating on the first 25 for this first quarter. We will work through reading and spelling all 100 by the end of the year.
