• Hello,
It was great to see everyone at Open House last night. The kids are so adorable and I can not wait to get to know them this year. We are going to have a great year.
If your child did not bring supplies last night, they may bring them tomorrow. If you could do me a huge favor and make sure all their person items (scissors, couple pencils, etc.) are opened and in their pencil box. Also if their headphones can be out of the package and in a labeled ziplock bag that would be great. It is difficult for me to open all the supplies on the first day!
Remember to have your child bring a healthy snack everyday. Please make sure that they can eat this independently and that it is not a messy snack (fruit packs with juice, etc.). They will eat these at afternoon snack time. The afternoon recess/ snack will be in the classroom or on the playground depending on weather.
I will see you tomorrow morning very excited to start this school year! I will meet your child on the elementary playground. I will have a sign and my name is on the ground where the children are to line up. I will be out there starting at 8:30 for this first week. After that, I will meet them out there at 8:40 when the bell rings.
It is important for the children to start the year independently, so I will ask that if you walk your child to the playground, you say goodbye as we start to walk in. That way the children will enter the hallway and our classroom as a group and we will not have the painful parent goodbyes.
I will dismiss the children at 3:30 and walk them out through the entrance between the office and our 500 hall. Please make sure your child know how they are getting home and where to meet you everyday. Lots of reminders. I will be out there with them the first two weeks to make sure they have their routine down. If anything changes with pickup, please feel free to email me or send a message through Remind to let me know and I will let your kiddo know the new plan.
If you have not joined Remind, please consider doing so. I am pretty good about sending email reminders and updating my website, but once in a while I remember something later in the evening and will send messages through Remind. You can text the number: 81010 and leave the message: @mrshowey1 -OR- you can email the address: mrshowey1@mail.remind.com and leave the subject line blank.
If you know someone who should receive this email and has not, please let them know to get me their email address. I will post this on my website as well.
    See you tomorrow!!!!!

Here is a list of the Fry's Sight Words.  We are still concentrating on the first 25 for this first quarter.  We will work through reading and spelling all 100 by the end of the year.
Look for Dreambox info coming  home soon.  Your child can do this for about 30 minutes a week at home.  Please let them only do it independently.
    Practice RAINBOW words!!!

Birthdays- Please let me know if your child would like to bring in a snack for their birthday.  As of now, we have 26 students in our class.  We will usually celebrate birthdays the last 30 minutes of the day- 3:00-3:30.
*****PLEASE NOTE***** We are a nut free classroom.  Please make every effort to ensure that the snacks you bring in to share with the class are nut free.  All food brought in must be store bought/pre-packaged.  No homemade items are allowed per district policy.  Thank you!!

Student of the Week-  I will let you know as soon as we start Student of the Week!!
Every week we will have a new Student of the Week in our class.  I will send home a poster for the child to fill out the Friday before.  They will bring that poster back and share it with the class on Monday.  On Tuesday, they will bring in photos to share.  Wednesday, will be a day your child can bring in their favorite item (book, toy, game, etc.).  Thursday, the class will interview your child, and on Friday, the class will write letters to the Star Student.  If your child would like to bring in a Star Student snack during the week, that would be great-Just Remember- Nut Free!
I have a list of books that you and your child can check out in the library that will align with their DRA reading level! I have attached 4 lists that go from level 1 DRA up to 3rd grade level reading.  I hope these help.  We will discuss DRA levels at conferences, or you can always call, email, or talk to me about your child's level.
