Getting Started Successfully
Welcome to DVUSD Pathways Prey's Anatomy!
ABOUT THE COURSE
Human Anatomy & Physiology is an exciting hands-on class where we spend the entire time studying the human body. Assignments will be posted daily on Canvas - students may only work on that day's assignments and will not have homework - given that they are managing their time in our daily class period Monday - Friday.
HOW TO GET STARTED
Arrive promptly at 12:00 pm at the Barry Goldwater High School campus. We dismiss promptly at 3:30 pm. This course is in-person only.
Login to Canvas online or with the Canvas app (iOs/Android).
Parents can also login to Canvas to observe classes and student progress. Parents even have their very own app!
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Arrive with a good attitude. Ensure that your device is fully charged. Be prepared to work on assignments without the distraction of your cellphone, and participate!

Class Expectations
A daily schedule follows below:
1. All students are required to be in class and ready to learn at 12:00pm.
- Attendance will be taken
- Complete bell work/discussion assignment
- Receive a preview of the day's learning
- Have an opportunity to ask questions
2. Instructional time from 12:00 pm until 3:15 pm
- Students will be performing many hands-on labs & activities, completing assignments in Canvas, and receiving direct instruction.
- We will take one or two short 5 minute breaks as needed. Students are not allowed to leave the building nor bring food to class.
- Students may only have water with them in class.
3. Review and closure 3:15 - 3:30 pm
- Complete the exit/discussion question/formative assessment
Remember, completing your assignments during instructional hours ensures that you do not have homework!
The pacing of course work:
- Students will meet daily with the teacher of record as outlined above
- Students will not be permitted to work ahead
- New content will be available daily
- Course work is expected to be completed that day
- There is no homework unless the daily coursework is not completed.
- DVUSD Pathways gradebook begins at a ZERO (0%) percent. Students establish their final grade through participation and completion of all course work
- Student active participation is expected throughout the enrollment period.
The Pathways' attendance policy:
- Students are allowed two (2) absences
- On the third (3rd) absence, the student is subject to withdrawal
- Students greater than 10 minutes late to class will be charged an absence
- Students may opt to appeal the withdrawal
- The student will receive instructions of Appeal
- The student will submit the Appeal information within 24 hours of receipt of Appeal instructions

About the Teacher
Mr. Jason Prey
I have enjoyed teaching science for 31 years, the last 26 in Arizona. Over my career I have been fortunate to teach Human Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, Honors Biology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Biology, AP Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Chemistry in the Community. As an instructor for Rio Salado College I have taught: BIO105, BIO145, BIO160, BIO201, & BIO202. I also taught the BIO160 lab as part of the paramedic program at Glendale Community College.
