HOW TO GET STARTED

Arrive promptly at Deer Valley High School campus and be in the assigned room by 3:00 pm. We dismiss at 5:45pm. This course is in-person only. 

Login to Canvas online or with the Canvas app (iOs/Android).

Parents can also login to Canvas to observe classes and student progress. Parents even have their very own app!

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Arrive with a good attitude. Ensure that your device is fully charged.  Be prepared to work on assignments without the distraction of your cellphone, and participate!

Phones are to be turned off and put away in your backpack. 

You may bring a drink in a closed container.  No food is allowed in the classroom except a small snack to be eaten during break. 

Please do not bring large bags of chips/candy/snacks to pass around to classmates, full meals, or have food delivered, as you will not be allowed to eat those in the classroom. We have to be careful to keep the room clean of chips/crumbs/trash on the floor.

DVUSD Pathways Biology 1/2 is an "in-person" learning experience.

Students are expected to arrive on time with fully charged school provided technology. Please bring a charger or portable charger to ensure access to your course.

Students are expected to ask questions, participate in discussions, and complete assignments daily prior to the end of our class.  We meet Monday - Thursday from 3 PM to 5:45 PM at Deer Valley High School. 

A daily schedule follows below:

All students are required to be seated in class at 3:00 PM until 5:45 PM

• Attendance will be taken
• Complete a bell work/discussion assignment
• Receive a preview of the day's learning
• Have an opportunity to ask questions

• Students will be completing most assignments on paper after direct instruction.
• We will take regular breaks.  Students are not allowed to leave the building. 
• Students may only have a drink in a closed container.  No food is allowed except for a small snack to be eaten during break. Please do not bring full meals or have meals delivered, as these will not be allowed to be eaten in the classroom.
• Phones are to be put away in backpacks and turned off.

Remember, completing your assignments during instructional hours ensures that you do not have homework! 

The pacing of course work:

• Students will meet daily with the teacher of record as outlined above
• Students will not be permitted to work ahead
• New content will be available daily
• Course work is expected to be completed that day
• There is no homework unless the daily coursework is not completed.
• Pathways gradebook begins at a ZERO (0%) percent.  Students establish their final grade through participation and completion of all course work
• Student active participation is expected.

The Pathways' attendance policy:

• Students are allowed two (2) absences
• On the third (3rd) absence, the student is subject to withdrawal
• Students greater than 10 minutes late to class will be charged an absence
• Students may opt to Appeal the withdrawal
  • The student will receive instructions of Appeal
  • The student will submit the Appeal information within 24 hours of receipt of Appeal instructions

Mrs. Kerrie Stephens

My name is Mrs. Stephens and I enjoy teaching several different subjects, and Special Education.  I have six children: two boys and four girls.  I also have four grandchildren.

I enjoy reading, swimming, and taking short road trips on the weekend. I'm also an original series Trekkie and an original series Twilight Zone fan. I believe we can all learn something about tenacity and never giving up from Captain Kirk's success with the Kobayashi Maru.
