Congratulations to the Latest DVUSD Governing Board Honorees!
The Deer Valley Unified School District (DVUSD) recently hosted a comprehensive awards ceremony to honor the outstanding achievements of its educators and students. From professional certifications to national academic recognition and state-level athletic success, the evening highlighted the district’s diverse talent.
Educator Excellence: National Board Certification
The district celebrated nine educators who achieved or maintained their National Board Certification, a rigorous process requiring deep reflection and evidence of student impact.

New NBCTs: Karen Padelford, Stacey Pearson, Tyler Tvrdy, and Shanna Weible were recognized for their commitment to student-centered instruction.

Maintenance of Certification: Veteran educators Shay Aley, Liz Keith, Jessica Kerich, Kyle Martin, and Principal Tara LeCount (completing her third cycle) were honored for their continued dedication to professional growth.
Academic Distinction: National Merit & Mandarin Immersion
DVUSD showcased its academic prowess through national scholarship finalists and linguistic mastery.

National Merit Finalists: Nine exceptional seniors from across the district were recognized as National Merit Scholarship Finalists. Honorees included Felicity Burton, Ting-Yun Lee, Shahin Madantschi, Conner Segraves, Isabella Shin, Naitik Mohanty, Aiden Young, and Elizabeth Young. These students were celebrated not only for their high test scores but for their leadership, entrepreneurship, and community service.

Mandarin Speech Competition: Students from the district’s Mandarin Immersion program dominated the state-level competition at ASU. First-place winners included Nora Sarver (1st Grade), Jordanna Saunders (7th Grade), Coralee Curtis (8th Grade), and Ryan Bogensberger (High School). Additional honors went to Elliot Chuang, Vienna Chaung, Neila Ngo, and Annaliese Saunders for their linguistic proficiency and cultural competence.
Athletic Achievement: Sportsmanship and State Success
The ceremony concluded by honoring student-athletes who excelled in competition and character.

Sandra Day O’Connor HS: The Boys Soccer team received the 6A Sportsmanship Award for their "Zone 1" focus on integrity. The Boys Basketball team secured a region title and reached the Open Quarterfinals, while the Girls Basketball team finished as Open State Runners-Up, currently ranked #50 nationally by MaxPreps.

Deer Valley HS: The Boys Basketball team celebrated their fourth consecutive state championship appearance, finishing as 4A Runners-Up with a 27-5 record. In wrestling, junior Braya Andrews was honored as the D1 State Runner-Up after a dominant 42-5 season. Finally, the Deer Valley Pom team was recognized for their resilience and performance at a national competition in Anaheim.
