Mission Statement for Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
The mission of the Deer Valley Unified School District's Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Department is to empower educators who prepare students to thrive in an ever-evolving world.

Deer Valley Unified School District's Commitment to Arizona Academic Standards

The Arizona State Board of Education is responsible by law for establishing policy for Arizona public schools, including the academic standards that define what students are expected to know, understand, and be able to do at each grade level. These standards build progressively from one grade to the next, increasing in complexity and cognitive demand to support student growth and achievement.

The Arizona State Board of Education adopts these standards, and the Arizona Department of Education oversees their implementation. Every public school district and charter school in Arizona is required to teach and assess student learning based on the Arizona Academic Standards. Arizona educators are legally obligated to provide instruction aligned with these standards and to assess student learning to provide intervention, remediation, enrichment, and future learning opportunities.

Deer Valley Unified School District remains firmly committed to teaching the Arizona Academic Standards as adopted by the Arizona State Board of Education. DVUSD does not develop or teach content outside of the standards established by the State of Arizona. Our teachers carefully analyze and "unwrap" the standards, establish clear learning targets, define success criteria, and assess student learning based on the required course standards. This standards-based approach ensures that all students receive instruction aligned to state expectations and are prepared for continued academic success.

DVUSD's focus is on delivering high-quality instruction that helps every student master the Arizona Academic Standards, while providing appropriate support and enrichment tailored to individual student needs.
