Canvas LMS
Canvas is the DVUSD learning management system.
This platform provides a central place for teachers to collect and deliver content. It also connects students to digital resources and materials and allows students the opportunity to virtually collaborate.
Here are just a few features of Canvas:
- Communication tools for discussions, updates, and student support
- Several options for content and assignments
- Integrates external resources and apps
- Functionality on a variety of devices
Please note that Canvas courses may display a running course grade for students based on the work collected and scored within Canvas; however, DVUSD’s official record of grades is in PowerSchool.
Canvas Data Breach Information

We have been notified by Instructure (Canvas) of a cyber incident affecting certain identifying information for users at impacted institutions, including DVUSD. The information involved may include names, email addresses, Canvas IDs, and messages exchanged within the platform. Instructure has also confirmed that other institutions using Canvas—such as Arizona State University—were affected.
DVUSD does not use Student ID numbers within Canvas, and at this time there is no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, or any financial information have been exposed.
Instructure has informed us that they have contained the incident and implemented additional security measures to help prevent similar issues in the future. As Instructure continues to address this incident, DVUSD students and parents may experience intermittent outages when attempting to log in to Canvas.

- Students can also access Canvas by signing in to the
- DVUSD Start Page - Click the Canvas button
- DVUSD Portal - Click Canvas from the menu on the left; click "More" if not displayed
- Canvas Mobile App for Students
PARENTS & GUARDIANS
Parents & Guardians can have a DVUSD Canvas account to view their child's Canvas courses. As an observer, parents & guardians can view the course content including assignment details, due dates, and announcements (without having access to participate in the course).
Login to Canvas with the email address included in your DVUSD PowerSchool parent access account.

Students who are new to Canvas or have not experienced all parts of Canvas may want to join this student quick-start course (available in the DVUSD Canvas Help Menu).
