Apply to Renaissance

Standard Application Eligibility to Apply:

In order to be eligible to apply under the label of a "Standard Application," ALL 3 gifted test scores (Verbal, Quantitative, Non‐Verbal) must be obtained at the 90th percentile or higher with a total of 280 percentile points or greater combined.  In the absence of these scores, DVUSD Gifted Services may choose to accept gifted testing that reflects a Full-Scale I.Q. score of 132+.  

In addition to submitting gifted testing, DVUSD Gifted Services requires a parent observation, (2) teacher recommendations -- one from the homeroom teacher of record, (2) student written responses, report card, and achievement data (ELA/ Math) with each Renaissance Application.  Achievement data is required due to the rigorous nature of a Renaissance classroom.  In some cases, a "Standard Application" may not be supported by the student's achievement data.  When this occurs, DVUSD Gifted Services may decide to approve the application as "Provisional."  

Students are considered for placement ONLY when the full application is completed.  

NO exceptions to the score requirements are permitted.

What is a Provisional Application?

Gifted Services accept "Provisional Applications" for classrooms where space is available. This allows DVUSD Gifted Services to place students who come very close to meeting the Standard Application requirements.  Students may be placed using the "Provisional" label when there is a discrepancy between the gifted testing and classroom performance or achievement testing provided in the Renaissance Application.

Students who are placed under the "Provisional" label are fully placed in Renaissance.  Families of students approved under the "Provisional Application" enjoy increased communication from the classroom teacher with additional academic support (*as appropriate for the learner).  Student success in Renaissance will be reviewed by the end of the school year.  Most students placed under the "Provisional Application" are extremely successful and continue in the program.

In some cases, a "Provisional Application" may not be supported by the student's achievement data.  When this occurs, DVUSD Gifted Services may deny the Renaissance placement and recommend one of our other gifted services (i.e. - Cluster Classroom, SAGE, Walk-Up Math, etc.).   

If you are living in the school boundaries already, and your child is already enrolled at the school, you do not have to do anything outside of the Renaissance application.  If you are not currently living in Canyon Springs/Highland Lakes/ Las Brisas/ Hillcrest boundaries, Please Read carefully! 

The open enrollment process is separate from the Renaissance application process. Please do not complete open enrollment until after you receive an acceptance/placement letter. Students accepted into Renaissance are guaranteed open enrollment approval.

If you have other siblings you would like to attend one of our Renaissance schools but they are not part of the Renaissance program, you can apply for open enrollment for them also. We suggest you apply for open enrollment as soon as possible for all of your children. The Gifted Services Department can only guarantee enrollment for students accepted into the program.
