DVUSD PHYSICAL EDUCATION MISSION STATEMENT

Physical education is a school-based opportunity for students to gain the necessary skills and knowledge for lifelong participation in physical activity. 

Physical education is characterized by a planned, sequential K-12 curriculum (course of study) that provides content and learning experiences in a variety of activity areas.  Quality physical education programs assist students in achieving the Arizona State Standards for K-12 physical education and becoming a physically educated person who has the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity.

HEALTH EDUCATION IN DVUSD VISION STATEMENT

The Deer Valley Unified School District commits to aligning with National and State Standards for Health Education by creating curriculum and activities to help students live healthy, happy, and productive lives. The Health Education Program focuses on educating and promoting each student's optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social development through appropriate decision-making that all students can practice throughout their lifetime. Health Education will give students the necessary knowledge and skills to influence family and community health.

The Mission Statement of the DVUSD Health Department is to:

  • Promote each student's optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social development through a variety of planned activities that all students can pursue throughout their lives
  • Provide a planned, comprehensive, and sequential, Health Education and Safety curriculum that focuses on the physical, mental, emotional, and social dimensions of health
  • Motivate and assist students to maintain and improve their health, prevent disease, and reduce health-related risk behaviors; allowing students to develop and demonstrate increasingly sophisticated health-related knowledge, attitudes, skills, and practices
  • Including a variety of topics, such as personal health, healthy relationships, consumer health, mental and emotional health, injury prevention and safety, nutrition, prevention and control of disease, and substance use and abuse.
