• 8th Grade Math w/ Mr. Caccavale

Welcome to 8th grade math at Norterra Canyon.  I am excited for the 2020-2021 school year and looking forward meeting my students and families.

This year our primary resource will be Open Up Math, a program that highly promotes learning through discovery, critical thinking, and collaboration.  However, we will use a variety of supplemental resources to reinforce and provide additional practice for the concepts we learn.

I have high expectations for my students and expect them to show up ready to learn and work hard.  It is my goal this year to develop resilient, critical thinking students, who exit my class as confident, problem solving young adults with exiting seventh graders ready to conquer eight grade maht and exiting eight graders ready to coquer algebra in high school.

    IB Grading System:

In regards to achieving a 7 or 8 (A+) on the rubric for each of the 4 criteria, each summative assessment (test) has clearly defined task descriptions that outline how a student can achieve the highest level. Students are normally achieving around a 3-6 (C, B, B+, A) during this time of the year. This is not to say someone will not achieve a 7 or 8 it just means that students must be able to demonstrate a level of knowledge and understanding that exceeds expectations. Any student who meets the criteria for a 7 or 8 will score a 7 or 8, and the teacher will interpret the criteria at the grade level of the course concerned. The criteria are achievable at all grade levels.
