Traditional School Information
Open Enrollment Continues!
Parents - Even though our schools are closed, you can still enroll your child or children at The Traditional Academy at Bellair for the 2020-21 school year. Anyone wishing to attend the traditional school must submit an open enrollment application. To enroll, visit: https://openenrollment.dvusd.org/application and select “Bellair.”
We encourage you to apply for open enrollment now to avoid being wait-listed. If you later decide a different school would be a better fit for your child, the open enrollment application is not binding. Learn more about open enrolling at DVUSD Open Enrollment.
Changes are coming to Bellair next school year as the District is repurposing Bellair into a traditional school. A traditional school provides a challenging learning environment, focuses on parent involvement, emphasizes a strict code of conduct, and provides for accelerated learning with a back-to-basics philosophy. In anticipation of this new school concept, the school building will be updated during the summer of 2020. We believe that these changes are in the best long-term interest of the school, the community, and district as a whole.
Some traditional schools do not have boundaries and instead have a policy where ALL students open enroll. As such, this traditional academy will be as an open boundary “school of choice”. The school will accept students based on the open enrollment policy of the Deer Valley Unified School District. Families must meet the behavior, attendance and family volunteer requirement to continue enrollment each year.
This traditional school’s curriculum will have teacher directed instruction, and incorporates curricular resources such as Spalding phonics and Saxon Math. Students at all grade levels will have the opportunity to receive instruction at a one year accelerated level. For example, kindergarten students at the traditional school would receive first grade math instruction. In addition, the traditional school has a uniform policy, mandatory family volunteer requirement, emphasizes patriotism and utilizes a character education program.
