    Online learning expectations

Welcome to an Improved Online Learning Experience!

Welcome to our new version of online learning! My classes will be using an online version of our ELA Collections textbook available through Canvas, an online instructional program that is in use at the High School, so it will be great practice for next year!

We as a team of teachers are committed to updating and addressing ways to positively enhance this online experience for both students and parents, so please send me or any of the 8th-grade teachers an email, text, or call if you have any thoughts or suggestions for improvement!

    How to Communicate:

The most important piece of online learning is communication. We have to communicate with each other as much as possible so that you do not feel lost, and so that we can have open discussions where you can voice your thoughts and opinions. The first week of classes will just be the basics of how and when to attend Zoom Classes and an Introduction to Canvas. Students: pay attention! You will need to show your parents how you review assignments due and how to access info on the platform.

Students: Diamond Canyon's expectation is that you message me directly through Canvas. That way, our conversation is not split between different forms of communication.

    • Office Hours: Monday through Thursday, I will be online in a Zoom meeting room from 2:00PM-3:00PM. It is the same link you will use to join class during your scheduled period.

      Zoom Meeting Link:

      Meeting ID: 593 290 2552
      Passcode: coyotes

Feel free to stop in and say "hi" or ask questions.
    1. You must log in with your school email to Zoom during class times!  We will not be allowing anyone into a virtual chat/class unless we know who you are!
    2. For office hours, for privacy and security we will only be allowing one person at a time into the room.  I may be with another student or parent in individual private meeting so please be patient in the waiting room!

Parents: If you have ANY questions please use one of the following methods to contact me. I will be monitoring my inboxes as much as possible, especially these first few weeks. Know that it may take a little longer in general for me to respond over the weekend, but you should not go more than 24 hours without hearing back from me. Feel free to use whatever method to connect with me that you are most comfortable with:

    1. Email:  My email address is Jessica.Vance@dvusd.org

    2. Text: 573-321-9216. This is my Google Voice number, not my personal phone, and I do not have it set up to notify me when calls come through. At this point in time, I would like to restrict calls to my classroom phone number by appointment only.

    3. Canvas Messaging: On the left side of your screen on Canvas there is an inbox. During the school day when I am online, it will ding and let me know that you have a question or issue.

Stay safe online, and remember that all of the online material is recorded. Make sure that you are only posting and messaging school appropriate material and content!

I cannot wait to meet all of you!
