Hello Online Students and Families:
My name is Aude Odeh and I will be your instructor for this session. This is my 7th year teaching and my first online!
For the 2020-2021 school year, I will be teaching ELA 5-6. I have my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Masters of Science in Secondary Education.
📓 Due Dates
This calendar explains due dates, end dates, and when assignments will CLOSE. You should download/print this calendar and use it throughout the semester to help you plan your time and when assignments are due!!
Please check your CANVAS grades regularly. This will be where you will see your MOST ACCURATE, UPDATED GRADE. PowerSchool will be updated weekly, however sometimes grades do not transfer over right away or transfer over incorrectly. I will do my best to make sure both grades are accurate and updated each week.
I try very hard to have your assignments graded 48 hrs after you have completed them. Sometimes, depending on the length of assignments, it takes a little longer. Message me with any concerns you have regarding your grades. Usually, I grade using the rubric in Canvas, and also leave feedback on your assignments, so make sure you go back and see what I've written :)
For discussion boards > some of them will be graded, and some of them will not. Most of the times, Discussion Boards are an area for you to explore a topic and share your opinion, as well as view opinions of others in the class. Even if they are not graded, please participate! I will be replying in discussion boards as well, so make sure you check back and see what people have written :)

***Please note: If you create a discussion post without content (a blank post so that other people's responses are revealed) will result in loss of credit for that assignment***
There is a To-Do List on Canvas. Most students are tempted to just use that to track their assignments for the week. Please don't do that. Many times there are things that DO NOT SHOW UP ON THE TO DO LIST. Please make sure that you are clicking MODULES and going down to the Unit we are in. Also, refer to your course calendar, which has all due dates!
There is a wealth of information on the internet, this we both know. That being said, please submit your own work. I can tell when you copy and paste something off the internet. Don't make it awkward.

Communication is key to success in an online course. Please read my announcements, messages, and emails, as this is how I will communicate important information with you!
If something is going wrong, message me. I understand that you are all are busy with in-person school, work, sports, activities, siblings, family, etc. I know life gets hectic. The best thing you can do is message me and let me know, and then work with me to figure out a solution so that you can be successful in this course. Messaging me on the last day of the course, hoping for a miracle, won't work!
Please submit work in PDF format, or something similar. If I cannot open your work, I can't grade it. Also, I cannot open Pages or Keynote, so please do not submit anything in those formats. I will not be able to grade them.
⭕Working Ahead and Falling Behind
You can work ahead in this course, that would be awesome! Falling behind, however, can get difficult. Usually I will message you and let you know that I am concerned with your progress. Please communicate with me, remember, my goal is for you to be successful!
