Thunderbolt Parents and Guardians,

As a Title 1 school, Desert Sky receives federal funds to assist us in providing learning supports for all of our students. We are able to use these funds to hire a parent liaison, reading specialist, math specialist, instructional coach, and behavior intervention specialist along with needed student supplies and technology.

Throughout the past year and this current school year, all meals have been free for all students. Our Title 1 funding is always based on the prior year’s free/reduced lunch numbers. With no charge for meals again this year, the number of applications received to date has been much lower than normal.

We are reaching out to the Desert Sky families to enlist your support in submitting an application. Our funding for next school year 2022-2023 will be based on this year’s applications. We are in jeopardy of losing thousands of dollars in funding unless we receive additional applications by January 18th.  This willdirectly impact the services we are currently able to provide for all students.

We will be sending home a hard copy of the meal applications tomorrow, Thursday, January 6 with your student. In addition, an online application is available and can be found on the Desert Sky website front page. In clarification, when the application asks for your household number, this only includes the parent/s and student/s. It does not include all people staying under that same roof. Ex: Mom, dad and student staying with relatives or friends. You would only include a total of 3 for your household in this example.

We are asking all parents to fill out an application whether you think you qualify or not. These applications are confidential and should take only a few minutes to fill out. If you send a hard copy to the school, your student can drop off at the front office or cafeteria. All applications will be given to the cafeteria only. If you need assistanceor have questions when filling them out, please call the office at 602-467-6500.

All of our Title 1 funds directly impact student learning and support. We are looking forward to being able to continue to offer these supports with your help in completing an application.

    Mrs. Patricia Resetar
