  • Welcome to the 7th grade English Language Arts (ELA) class! I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year, and I look forward to an exciting and productive school year. I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an overview of what to expect in our ELA class.

Curriculum: This year, we will explore a variety of literary genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama. Our curriculum is designed to develop critical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing skills. We will also focus on vocabulary building, grammar, and spelling. We have a brand-new curriculum for ELA, Studysync.

Classroom Expectations: I believe that a positive and respectful classroom environment is essential for learning. Students are expected to come to class prepared, participate actively, and show respect for their peers and the learning process. I encourage open communication and will always be available to discuss any concerns or questions you may have.

Homework and Assignments: Homework will consist of work that needs to be completed that did not get done in class.  However, reading outside the classroom offers numerous benefits that can significantly enhance a student's learning experience. Here are some key ways it helps: critical reading skills, expands vocabulary, develops critical thinking skills, strengthens writing skills, and promotes life-long learners. Please encourage your child to read outside the classroom.

Communication: I believe that communication between parents and teachers is key to a successful school year. Each Monday a smore newsletter is sent out to parents. Not only does this have classroom information for all classes, it also has school wide information. Please feel free to contact me at brandi.king@dvusd.org if you have any questions or concerns. I am here to support your child’s learning and am always happy to discuss their progress.

I am excited about the year ahead and look forward to working with you and your child. Together, we can make this a fantastic year of growth and learning.

    Thank you for your support!
