• Welcome to 5th Grade Math 2022-2023 School Year!  I am looking forward to teaching you all new math strategies and strengthening your motivation for Math.

Quarter I - 3 Aug - 30 September, we will start with our Eureka Module I, Place value and decimals.  It is a review of grade 4 math objectives and 16 lessons.  We will then start our Eureka Module II, Multiplying Multi-digit numbers.

We are using 5th grade Eureka Math Modules.  You can find the modules also online at the following link:

    OUR K–5 Math | Grade 5 - Teacher Edition (openupresources.org)

We are starting with Eureka's Module #5 First, it is Titled: Unit 5- Place Value Patterns and Decimal Operations.

Students build from place value understanding in grade 4 to recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and what it represents in the place to its left. They use this place value understanding to round, compare, order, add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals.  There are 16 Lessons, then we will start our second Module Titled, Multi-Digit Whole Number and Decimal fraction operations, which has 29 lessons.  In Eureka it is titled Unit 6.  Starting 6 September 2022 We will start Module II - Multi-digit Whole Numbers and Decimal Fractions Operations.

If you need more math support, I am available at 7:30 - 8:30, Lunchtime, RTI Time (2:00-3:00pm), 330-4:30pm. In this math canvas there are videos to go with each lesson or you can also view Eureka videos at the following link to help with lessons.  Eureka Math Grade 5 Module 2 - YouTube

You can also get more math help by going to Khan academy.org.  Each student has joined my Khan academy class and I have assigned lessons which correspond to the lessons we are doing in class.  There are more videos and more math questions that will enforce the lessons learned.

www.kahnacademy.org    To join our class ensure you put in the following class code:  9P234PJW

For Fluency support (To help strengthen math fact fluency, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts), you can log into Xtramath.com. Students have their own login and pin.

Dream box can also help.  Students can go to start dvusd and log in.  They click on the Dream box icon.  This online program helps with 5th grade math standards.  It is highly recommended to a minimum of 2 lessons per week to improve grade level math scores.  Flash cards and dice can help with multiplication facts. Practice helps strengthen your math skills.  Participating in class, completing practice set, exit ticket, and daily math homework will help prepare you for quizzes and tests.
