This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. Students learn vocabulary and basic language structures through conversation and written expression.
This course will develop language skills that transfer across the disciplines and which are useful within and beyond the school setting. This course is designed to expand and deepen students' ability to make comparisons through understanding language structures and the social, political, and cultural realities of people in the Spanish-speaking world, both here in the Phoenix Metropolitan community, as well as in the global community. The course provides frequent opportunities for students to demonstrate their proficiency through interpretive communication to understand and to understand and synthesize information from a variety of authentic resources. Additionally, the course provides frequent opportunities for students to demonstrate proficiency in interpersonal and presentational communication in both spoken and written form. This course is aligned with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards, national standards and supports the school wide efforts to increase student achievement.
