Mrs. Block
Welcome to reading intervention at Desert Sage!
My name is Gail Block and I have been teaching for nearly 30 years! My career has included teaching in third grade, fifth grade, seventh grade, and as both a reading specialist and instructional coach in grades K-8. I am married to a fellow DVUSD educator and our son attends Sandra Day O' Connor. In my free time I love travel, yoga, hiking, working out, reading, and spending time with my family and our golden doodle, Cody.
This is my first year at both Desert Sage and DVUSD and I am so excited to embark on a new journey, working with our youngest readers in grades K-3. I graduated from Keene State College in New Hampshire with a dual major in elementary education and early childhood education. I then went on to get my Masters in Elementary Education from NAU, and I also have endorsements in reading, early childhood, middle school, and Structured English Immersion.
I am a passionate and avid reader and hope to pass this love of reading on to all of the students I work with! Please know that I will work my hardest to remediate any gaps the students have by teaching them effective strategies so they can grow in both their skills and their confidence in reading.
You can help so much by doing your part and making sure you read with your child for 20 minutes each day. This not only provides daily practice and models the importance of reading, it also provides wonderful quality time for parent and child, and fosters language development, empathy, and critical thinking.
It's going to be a great year! If you have any questions, you can reach me at gail.block@dvusd.org.
