Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! If you are new to Norterra Canyon or returning, we are excited to have you as part of our Pirate Family! This school year we will continue to recognize our Pirate PRIDE- Perseverance, Responsibility , Integrity, Diversity, Excellence and have PRIDE assemblies at the beginning of each full day Friday in our courtyard beginning with music playing at 8 AM and the PRIDE assembly beginning at 8:15. We will celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of students and staff, hear of upcoming events, and pass along the Pirate PRIDE Flag to the next deserving class. Parents are welcomed, even encouraged, to attend and enjoy this celebration with our students.
IN addition to Pirate PRIDE, we are also thrilled to be entering a partnership with the MASK Academy. MASK purpose is to build and strengthen life skills for elementary school-age children focusing on three themes: Relational Development, Digital Solutions, and Health and Wellness. Relational Development focuses on social skills. Digital Solution focuses on technology safety and use. Health and Wellness focuses on healthy lifestyle choices. Not only does MASK support our students, but they will also present MASK Parent University on our campus, aimed "to engage, educate and empower audiences with the knowledge, resources and tools to make safe, healthy choices. The E3 lessons brings a comprehensive approach to educating parents from kindergarten through college and is designed to present the latest trends and information at an age-appropriate level." This will be Norterra Canyon's initial year for our candidacy to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) and we are looking forward to having all of our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participating in this program. This year students will enjoy the additional learning experiences from our French, technology design, and STEM classes along with their math, English Language Arts, science, social studies, and electives (PE, choir, band, or art).
Please be sure to check out the teacher web page for your students. You can find them be looking under the "Academics", selecting the grade level on the drop down menu, and then selecting your teacher from the list on the left hand side of the grade level page. Or you can search them by name under the "Staff Websites" section. The teacher web page will provide you with details about their classroom expectations, the weekly schedule, their grading policy, and other specific information that will be helpful for you to know.
We will continue the tradition of the PTSA sponsored Food Truck Nights on the first Thursday of each month along with many wonderful monthly events to bring our community together for fun and celebrations. If you haven't joined the NCPTSA, please do and become part of a positive force in our school community! (ncptsa.org)
