Dear Students and Parents,

I am so excited to be your child's 5th grade social studies and writing teacher this year. This will be my 25th year teaching at Las Brisas, wow! I adore this school. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and in Elementary Education. My Master’s Degree is also in Elementary Education with an emphasis in reading.

I am excited to concentrate our learning on history and writing this year.  I am a huge American history buff! Writing and Social Studies are very capatable and easy to integrate. I have been a part of a history grant through DVUSD and have been very lucky to take several historical trips during our summer breaks. A few summers ago I participated in a teacher workshop in Williamsburg, Virginia for 7 days, fully immersed in Colonial America.   In previous years our theme was the Civil War where we traveled to Washington DC, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Richmond, Virginia. Before that we studied the Revolutionary War in Boston. These trips have taught me an exorbinate amount and have given me many wonderful ideas and teaching tools to bring back to my classroom, as well as great personal experiences for me to share with my students.

I have three fantastic children who have all left the nest as of this year.  All three of my children went through Las Brisas from pre-school to 6th grade. My oldest daughter, Makayla, joined the Navy on December 7, 2011 and is loving it.  Karina gradauted from The UofA in  May of 2017 and is a professional dancer in St. Louis, Missouri.  She dance with the Big Muddy Dance Company. My Son, Skyler, wil be starting his first year at UofA, and has been accepted into their film and television program.  I also have an adorable  Chihauha named Winter.

I am so lucky to have Mrs. Moler and Ms. Goodman to team with this year.  I am certain that this year will be positive and exciting year as we journey back in time. I look forward to our year together. Teaching is my passion and it continues to inspire me with each new year and each new and amazing student I meet.

Your teacher,
Ms. Cardella
