I return to work on July 23, 2020

  • First day of school for students August 3, 2020

  • Greetings,

Recently communication was shared with all families that DVUSD students will learn virtually for the first instructional quarter (Aug 3-Oct 9). This means all students will be in either the On Campus Virtual Learning model with their campus teachers or with the Deer Valley Online Academy teachers (families must register for this separate full-time online program). Aside from the virtual instruction provided by grade level, content-area, and special area teacher teams, your child also qualifies for additional services to support their learning through Student Support Services and the Special Education team.

The special education team is working diligently to ensure that your child’s needs are met during virtual learning. Your Service Coordinator will reach out to you to discuss the individualized schedule for virtual small group instruction aligned to your child’s goals.

Some specific supports in place for your child include the following:

    Overview

    • Special education services will be provided to students with an IEP in each DVUSD Return To School Learning model
    • As needed, IEP teams will meet to discuss the unique health and safety and/or educational needs of an individual student as it pertains to their identified learning model
    • Designated special education teacher(s) will collaborate with each student’s general education teacher(s) to ensure the instruction provided to students is accommodated in accordance with the student’s IEP and is accessible, reasonable, and appropriate based on the student’s unique needs.

    On Campus/Virtual for All

    • During online learning due to mandated school closures, special education services will be provided virtually in accordance with the student’s current IEP service minutes
    • Specially designed instruction and related services will be provided for the amount of time reflected on the student’s IEP either individually or in small groups as deemed appropriate by the service provider
    • Designated special education teacher will work with the student’s general education teacher(s) to accommodate core content and instruction

Deer Valley Online Academy (full-time online)

    • Designated special education teacher will provide specially designed instruction in accordance with the student’s IEP service minutes
    • Specially designed instruction and related services will be provided for the amount of time reflected on the student’s IEP either individually or in small groups as deemed appropriate by the service provider
    • Designated special education teacher will work with the student’s Deer Valley Online Academy general education teacher(s) to accommodate core content and instruction

Teachers will be returning July 27th and will reach out to families through out the week. Scheduling of services will be coordinated with the general education teachers schedules and will be communicated to parents. Scheduling may need to be adjusted as we begin online instruction. Please keep in contact with your child's special education teacher with questions or concerns. Feel free to reach out to me any time. I check voicemails at least once per day and will frequently check emails. Thank you for partnering with us and trusting us with your child's education.

    Respectfully,

    Mrs. Katie Wahlstrom
