Hello and welcome to eighth grade!
My name is Laura Feddersen and I am so happy to be teaching 8th grade Social Studies again, this year! Before we get started on another fantastic school year, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.
I have lived in Arizona for most of my life. I moved here with my parent when I was only five years old. I have lived in Glendale, Phoenix, Scottsdale, and my family and I now call Anthem home. I have lived here with my husband and two daughters for the past sixteen years!
This is my seventh year at Canyon Springs and my second year teaching eight grade Social Studies. I graduated for Arizona State University in 1997 with a B.A. in Elementary Education.
I have been married to my husband Philip for 21 wonderful years. We have two very smart, beautiful, and talented daughters. Sarah is a senior at Boulder Creek and Amy is a seventh grader here at Canyon Springs.
My family and I have several pets. We have Ellie our dog, Vader and Cheesy our cats, Spike the hedgehog and several gold fish.
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember and because of that I have always gravitated towards working with children. I have taught kids, in some capacity, since I was sixteen years old.
I firmly believe that Parent Involvement is all about the children. Participation in your child’s education is proven to boost his or her achievement in school. I am committed to treat parents as partners while keeping lines of communication open and focused on the needs of your child. Mutual trust and respect between parents and teachers is required to maintain a positive learning experience at any school. I believe that your trust in me and Canyon Springs is required to ensure your child’s success.
Out of all the grades I have taught, I am most excited about teaching 8th grade. I love teaching Social Studies! I have always been fascinated with American History and am so excited to be teaching it again this year. It is my hope that my students will leave 8th grade with a sense of accomplishment. I want them to leave 8th grade with a lifelong love of learning. I have high expectations for my students. I treat my students like I do my own children and I want the very best for them. I cannot wait for another amazing year here at Canyon Springs!Just a few more things about me:I love spending time traveling with my family. Each summer we try to visit as may places as we can around Arizona so that we can learn new things about our beautiful state. This summer we not only got to see Arizona, but we also went to Disney World in Florida! It was amazing! If I am not swimming, I like to sew and I have made costumes for many different theater groups around the valley as well as for our own school plays. Ajo Al's is my favorite restaurant, fall is my favorite time of year, and Disneyland is my favorite place to go on vacation!
