A little about me!
I am thrilled to be starting Year 16 in Education teaching at Mountain Ridge High School! Over the years, I have taught 7th grade-college freshmen but love teaching at the high school level.
I am originally from Michigan, earning a bachelor's degree from WMU (Go Broncos!) and a master's degree from GCU (Lopes Up!). I am currently working toward National Board Certification in ELA for Adolescents & Young Adults and hope to complete that process this year.
Throughout my tenure in the district, I have worn many hats, including English teacher (at all levels), Student Government advisor, [multiple] clubs sponsor, and musical director & choreographer. I love being involved on campus--athletics, activities, arts--to connect with students and to gain a more holistic view of who they are!I LOVE dressing up for spirit days (I guess that's my theatre background!). Anything to make a kid smile! :)
I am grateful to have earned some recognition during my time in education, including two-time School Teacher of the Year (2014 & 2018) and District Teacher of the Year (2017).
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, and binge-watching true crime documentaries. I also perform with a competitive women's show choir (check out Scottsdale Sweet Adelines on YouTube!) and sing with my husband in a mixed a capella chorus as well (Southwest Vocal Alliance).
I can't wait to get to know you!
