    Skill: Sequence


    • What is this skill?  Sequence is the order in which things happen.  In a story, something happens first, something happens next, and something happens last
    • Why is this important?  Good readers need to pay attention to the sequence of events in a story.  This helps them to keep track of what happens.


      • Sight Words
        • Review: am, a, at, are, as, and, blue, can, do, for, green, have, he, I, in, is, it, little, like, look, my, me, of, said, she, see, the, to, that, they, we, with, yellow, you
        • Letters: Review all Letters and sounds
      • Phonemic awareness:
        • Initial Sounds: Say the beginning sound you hear in a word
        • Final Sounds: What is the last sound you hear?
        • Middle Vowel sounds
        • Syllables: How many syllables in word? 
        • Rhyming: Which words rhyme?
        • Onset Rhyme: c+at  p+at....
        • Sounds in a word: p/a/t
        • Grammar: Nouns, verbs, adjectives
      • Phonics:
        • Decode, read and write...
          • CVC words (ie, hot, cat, sun, pit, met)
          • Digraphs /sh/ & /ch/
          • Short and long vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u)


      • Letter and number formation
      • Write a proper sentence using sight words and first sounds in words
      • Proper use of periods, question marks, exclamation points
      • Spaces between words
      • Daily journal writing
      • Character, setting & details with words and pictures
      • Fiction vs Non-fiction
      • Reports
