    Skill: Classify and Categorize
    • What is this skill?  Classify and categorize means to put things into groups that belong together because they are like each other in some way. 
    • Why is this important?  Knowing how to classify and categorize things is important because it helps improve our language and vocabulary development. 

    Introduce New Sight Words

    • Review: I, am, the, little, like, a, to

    Introduce Letters: 

    • Qq, Zz, Yy, Xx
    • Review Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp, Rr, Ss, Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww

    Phonemic awareness:

    • Initial Sounds: Say the beginning sound you hear in a word
    • Syllables: How many syllables in word? Clap the parts of a word: el - e - phant
    • Rhyming: Ask your child if certain words rhyme:  cat/hat .  pen/ten .  milk/silk .  flat/hat
    • Phoneme segmentation: Ask your child to tell you ALL the sounds in words like:
      • sun /s/ /u/ /n/
      • ship /sh/ /i/ /p/
      • leg /l/ /e/ /g/
    •  

    Grammar:

    • Nouns: Person, place, animal or thing
    • Verbs: Action words (read, walk, flip, swim, slip, talk, etc....)
    • Adjectives: Describe Nouns (short, blue, scary, nice, etc....)
