Dance is a performance based class. Attendance is mandatory for learning to take place. All students may earn 9 points per day based on the following criteria:
3pts = dress out/preparedness3pts = participation/effort3pts = behavior
Students may lose points for chewing gum, using cell phones, negative attitude, excessive talking, or poor effort during class. Give you best effort daily.
All students are required to participate in class performances. Dress rehearsals are also mandatory. Absences will only be excused for illness or family crisis. A phone call prior to the absence must be made to the instructor for the absence to be excused. A written paper will be assigned to receive credit for the performance.
Grades will be determined based on the student’s cumulative earned points, weighted by category. Final course grades are computed as 80% equaling the coursework done throughout the semester and 20% equaling the final exam portion of the grade.

Student sometimes listens to the teacher and follows rules. They somewhat add to the class lesson but can at times be distracting.

Knowledge of Choreography
Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the choreography and does it well.
Demonstrates good knowledge of choreography. Keeps up with the group. Few errors, however it does not interfere with performance.
Demonstrates knowledge of choreography. Keeps up with group. Some errors (3-5) causing brief pause in performance.
Demonstrates some knowledge of choreography, but unsure of some movements. Sometimes hesitates and or watched others. Makes several errors.
Dance performed with great attention to quality of movement, body positioning, placement on stage, and other details of dance. Also demonstrates an excellent understanding of various dance styles.
Dance performed with attention to details of technique, has attained above average proficiency in dance styles.
Dance performed with attention to most details of technique, but hasn’t attained proficiency in dance styles yet. Some technical errors.
Only some understanding of technique demonstrated in performance. Limited attention to detail. Many technical mistakes. Very low proficiency in dance styles.
The student commands the audience’s attention and is able to engage the audience completely through their performance. A true joy to watch!
The student communicates with audience through eye contact and facial and body expression. Is able to engage the audience most of the time.
The student sometimes communicates with the audience through eye contact and facial and body expressions. Occasionally loses focus.
