I am so excited to be welcoming our new and returning students to Mountain Shadows Elementary School for the 2018-2019 school year. This will be an exciting year full of new leadership opportunities and adventures for everyone, including our journey towards Lighthouse Certification. As our campus grows, so does our awesome leaders. I am pleased to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Mr. Chris Clute. He is a teacher on assignment filling this position, and comes to us with a wealth of knowledge. We also have some wonderful new staff members that we are eager to work with and share with you.
As a Leadership Academy who focuses on building leaders, we believe that our students need to be equipped with self-confidence and skills in order to thrive in the 21st century. Through The Leader in Me, students use the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders to acquire the necessary tools that will help them become successful leaders of their own learning, both in the classroom and out. This year our focus will continue on deepening leadership knowledge to increase engagement and academic achievement through brain-based learning. We believe that every child is a genius!
The Mountain Shadows staff continues to support our continuous improvement process of increasing student achievement. This year, our main focus will be in the area of English Language Arts (ELA) skills. Reading plays the key role in student success. We will also focus on goal setting and goal attainment using the Leader in Me principles. Engagement with the learning is our main goal in supporting student success. We are in the 5th and final year of our 21st Century after school program that supports our students in gaining academic achievement. This program helps our students to catch up and keep up on prior skills.
With a new year come changes to procedures. Based on state requirements, students receiving medications at school are now required to have a doctor’s order. Please contact Nurse Linda in the Health Office at (623) 445-4310 for more information.
As always, safety is priority. I ask that you please follow the drop-off and pick-up procedures as you continue to set good examples for our students. I realize it takes longer to get through the line during the first part of the year, but it is necessary for keeping our students safe. Also, please note that students may not be dropped off or picked up in our north “lollipop” parking lot as this area is not supervised. I appreciate your support in following the rules and keeping our campus a safe place for all.
I am thrilled to be leading a campus that employs teachers who are passionate and provide innovative and effective instruction to their students. The staff works diligently to guide and facilitate learning throughout the school day. Our goal is to keep you informed so that you are able to be involved in your children’s education. Working together in partnership will create a positive learning environment that will help increase student success. I appreciate feedback and invite you to attend one of our open forums during the school year.
I am eager to meet you and share all of the wonderful opportunities that Mountain Shadows has available for your child. I look forward to our adventure together and see how our great leaders shine in the 2018-2019 school year.
