    Dear Coyote Families,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! We have missed you and look forward to connecting with you again. This year we are heading into an unusual school year. We know that learning will look different and when we return to campus, it will feel different. I want to assure you that we are ready for the challenges that this year will bring. Our teachers are committed to optimize every moment necessary to support your child with learning.

I am so excited to be working alongside our students, staff, parents, and community members. Now more than ever we must work together to keep our students moving forward. During the first quarter, all students will be learning online. Students will be working synchronously or asynchronously. Our synchronous students will be “at school” during the regular school hours from 8:45 AM to 3:30 PM. Teachers will be connecting throughout the day providing new grade level learning. Students will be using a web-based platform called Canvas to view lessons and return school work. Our asynchronous students will also be using Canvas to view and return the same work. However, these students may not have an opportunity to connect with their teacher during the school day. Live sessions will be recorded during the school day and available for viewing at other times. It is important that you child is working daily on the school work. There are resources available to help you guide your child. Please reach out the classroom teacher if you need help with Canvas or need more information about the expectations.

This year, we will continue focus on the Leader in Me. Your child will learn how to set goals and track the progress towards the goal. Teachers will also be introducing concepts that support social and emotional learning, which is a part of the Leader in Me philosophy. Your child will be learning about how to manage emotions, show empathy for others, and build positive relationships. These skills are key for working together with others in the real world. Sharpening the Saw activities will also be included in daily lessons. Our goal is to provide opportunities for your child to build upon both their strengths and area of growth.

As always, safety is top priority. It is of the upmost importance that visitors follow CDC guidelines when visiting the school and dropping off/picking up children. We ask that you please maintain a 6 foot distance, always wear a facemask, and use the available hand sanitizer. Our goal is to keep our students, staff, and visitors safe at all times.

It is exciting to lead a campus that employs staff who are passionate in providing innovative and effective instruction. Our goal is to keep you informed in the learning process so that you are able to be involved in your children’s education. Working together in partnership creates a positive learning environment that will help increase student success. Feedback is always appreciated. There are several opportunities to connect with the teacher throughout the school year.

I am eager to work collaboratively with you and share all of the wonderful opportunities that Mountain Shadows has available for your child. Please feel free to reach out to myself or our Dean of Students, Mrs. Tucker, with any questions you may have. Happy 2020-2021 school year!
