I wish everyone a warm welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!! I am so excited to be a part of the staff at Sonoran Foothills Elementary School! I look forward to meeting all my new students and having a great year in PE!
Just a little information to introduce myself...I am an Arizona native. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education, emphasizing in Physical Education/Kinesiology in 2002, and I am entering into my 15th year of teaching PE. I have been teaching in DVUSD for a total of 10 years. This year will be my fourth year at Sonoran Foothills School. Although I am taking a break from extra-curricular coaching this year, I have coached basketball in DVUSD for a total of six years, the past three years being here at Sonoran Foothills.
My love for Physical Education began as a youth. I enjoyed participating in P.E. as an elementary school student, and opted to take P.E. all four years of high school at Greenway High. My senior year, I had the opportuntiy to be a student assistant in the PE department. I enjoyed playing a variety of sports as a Physical Education student, which sparked my interest in playing basketball and soccer extracurricularly. I participated in youth soccer and I played basketball in high school and junior college. Both were experiences that played an important part of developing who I am today.
My goal as a Physical Education teacher is to help students develop the skills and knowledge necessary to adopt healthy lifetime fitness practices.
In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors. I love hiking, swimming, traveling, attending sporting events and spending time with my 2 boys ages 20 and 8. My favorite sport is basketball. Although I love the desert, I enjoy escaping to cooler climates, such as Flagstaff and Prescott when I get the chance. Even though I graduated from ASU, I am a U of A Wildcats fan all the way!! Go Cats!!!:)
