    WELCOME TO AVID!!!

Welcome to Deer Valley Middle School's AVID Program!  I am happy to have you all join our signature DVMS Program this year.  My name is Mr. Abrams, and I am your AVID Coordinator.  I will be teaching you all year long.  It's nice to meet you.  :)

    What is AVID?

AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) is a college preparatory course that will teach you many new skills that will ensure academic success in middle school, high school, and eventually college.

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.  Each of you have been recognized as having the potential to succeed in our program, and it is our honor to invite you to take part in this unique opportunity, as Deer Valley Middle School is the only school in our district to offer this class.

By the end of this year, you will be well-prepared for your next step, and will in turn be more prepared for your eventual college and career experiences.  AVID 7 curriculum will teach you self-awareness strategies, how to utilize systems for note-taking and organization, how to develop your critical thinking skills, emotional health, and other relevant skills that will make you college and career ready. AVID 8 curriculum will focus heavily on personal growth, leadership, and overall readiness as you head off to high school.

    What To Expect:

The first quarter of the year will be done virtually.  Our class periods will be two hours every other day.  Each week, you will have three "A" days and two "B" days.  Here is a sample of what that looks like:
