Dear Legend Springs Families,

You may have already received a similar email from your teacher, however, we wanted to reiterate this information again.

We miss our students and hope that everyone is doing well, staying healthy and making memories during this extended spring break!

Now that you’re into week 2 of spring break, I know some of your children (mine included) may be getting antsy and ready to dive into a routine again.  I know we are! As you have heard through DVUSD communication, the district plans to begin teacher-planned Home Learning on Monday, April 6th. This coming Monday, March 30th, the district will be emailing out and posting on their website some great resources you can use for enrichment and “filler time” for your child(ren) for the week of March 30-April 3.  This work is not required, and will NOT be taken as a grade, but is rather an additional option to help you engage your child and practice a structured home learning routine if you are able.

While we wait for those resources to be shared as a whole district, you can always hop online with your child(ren) to current virtual resources that we have accessible to all LS students.  Your child(ren) can navigate to their teacher websites under “staff websites” at for specific grade level resources.  These resources include links to KidsA-Z, Zearn, XtraMath, Dreambox, Newsela, ReadTheory, Khan, IXL, and more (depending on your grade level). ABCya,, and BrainPop are also great online resources.

You may also consider some of the following options/ideas for enrichment activities:

  • Write in a daily journal.  Good for writing and cursive writing practice.  Come up with prompts together!
  • Dig up some non-fiction articles or videos (National Geographic for Kids, etc), read/watch, then write fun facts they learn.  Have your child(ren) create a presentation or report to share with family in person, via FaceTime or Facebook live.
  • ENCOURAGE READING.  Read every day. You can read with your child, alongside them (never hurts to finish that book or magazine you’ve been looking at on your coffee table), or listen to them read aloud or to another sibling.

Mrs. Cindy (librarian) has some great resources and ebooks as well!  We have over 200 library ebooks that LS students can check out free. Download the Destiny Discover App free on our phone or tablet to get our school ebook library.  Or visit and click on the left side “ebooks” link. Students can use their school computer login information (their username without the @learner part) to access.  Keep reading!

Please refer to regularly for the most recent updates for families.  Mrs. Basl will also begin sending more consistent communication beginning the week of March 30th once more finite plans are in place as an entire district.

Please don’t forget to respond to this short survey to help DVUSD understand your family’s access to technology: The survey only takes a minute to complete and we ask that all families complete it as soon as possible -- by Friday, March 27 at the latest. DVUSD will use this information to guide our next steps in planning for learning for all students to begin April 6th.

Be on the lookout for communication and plans to come pick up any essential student belongings (band instruments, glasses, and personal devices only) for those who need it on Tuesday, 3/31 as well.

We will continue to update you as we learn more.
