Welcome to the Highland Lakes Health Center! My name is Kristina, and I'm happy to be the nurse for the Highland Lakes community. I am a Registered Nurse (RN) with over 15 years of pediatric nursing experience.
The Health Office provides on-campus health screenings, assessments, and health education to students and staff. First-aid and general nursing care are provided as needed. At Highland Lakes, we look at the whole person, therefore, students who have social/emotional or mental concerns will have their needs met by me in conjunction with the school counselor or the school psychologist. Any child who comes into the Health Office will be seen by me, however, the Health Center is NOT A PRIMARY CARE FACILITY OR URGENT CARE. By law, I am not allowed to make a medical diagnosis, or prescribe treatments or medications. When accidents or illness occur during school hours, basic first-aid and/or emergency care will be given according to the AZ State Board of Nursing standards and practices. I may suggest further medical follow up in certain circumstances. Further care and follow up are the responsibility of the parents.
For any questions or concerns, please contact me at 623-376-4310. You may also email me at Kristina.Koan@dvusd.org. Any messages or emails left/sent Monday through Friday by 3:00pm will be returned within 24 hours. I can usually respond the same day, but please know that I will get back to you within 24 hours. If a message/email is left after 3:00pm on Friday I will get back to you Monday morning.
Here's to a healthy, happy school year, Bears!
