Desert Sage Sixth Grade
Welcome to the Sixth Grade! Sixth grade is always a memorable year for students as they become the leaders of the school. We love teaching sixth grade and have great things planned for the students! We provide a variety of activities to engage and enrich all of our students.
In Social Studies, we study Ancient Civilizations and often integrate technology into our units of study. Our Math curriculum challenges our students to go beyond basic skills and apply these skills to higher order problem solving activities. In Language Arts, we prepare our students to be more effective readers and writers as they’ll be exposed to multiple genres. We learn about Weather and Water as well as Diversity of Life in our Science class.
6th grade homework policy is any unfinished classwork will be completed at home and is due the next day. Incomplete assignments and late work will be completed in the opportunity room after eating lunch or during RTI time.
One of the most thrilling parts of sixth grade is our trip to Prescott Pines Camp from May 6-8, 2019! We will be doing a fundraiser in the fall to help with camp fees. We also have a year-long peer leadership program called CHAMPS. Students will be involved in an all day training day in late August.
Sixth grade is an exciting time as students emerge as “middle schoolers” with unique social, emotional, and academic characteristics. We look forward to working together to prepare for the transition to middle school! Parent support will be greatly appreciated throughout the entire school year.
