Hello Desert Sage Families,
It is time to begin another extraordinary school year at Desert Sage! I am very pleased and excited to be starting my second year as your proud principal. This will be a year full of new learning and adventures for everyone, including the implementation of the All Things EQ, our social-emotional/ behavior support program. More information about All Things EQ will be coming home soon. Our campus has grown this year! I am pleased to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Dr. Heidi Hopman. She is a teacher on assignment filling this position, and comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and years of exceptional education service. Dr. Hopman’s introduction letter is attached (DE TOA Intro Leter.pdf). Additionally, we also have some wonderful new staff members that have joined the Desert Sage family. They are all looking forward to working with your children and building strong relationships within our community.
In wonderful Desert Sage tradition we will be having many opportunities for family engagement and academic events throughout the school year. Below is just a short list of some events worthy of saving the date.
- Meet the Teacher Open House, Friday, August 3, 2018 - 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- First day of school, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 - campus opens at 8:30 a.m.
- K-3rd grade Curriculum Night, Tuesday, August 21, 2018 - 5:30 p.m.
- 4th-6th grade Curriculum Night, Thursday, August 23, 2018 - 5:30 p.m.
This school year every Friday will be a Desert Sage spirit day. Students and staff are all encouraged to show their Gecko pride by wearing Desert Sage t-shirts or our school colors of purple and teal. At different times throughout the year we will be holding spirit competitions and even doing some spirit surprises. So get in the habit now and make your wardrobe choices even easier by showing your school spirit every Friday!
Desert Sage is now on Twitter! Please take a moment to follow us on Twitter @DesertSageElem. We will be using our Twitter account to communicate information about upcoming events, awesome learning happening in your child’s classroom, reminders, and so much more.
I continue to whole-heartedly believe in Deer Valley Unified School District and Desert Sage’s mission to “provide extraordinary educational opportunities to every learner” and the talented work the teachers and students do each day. As your principal, I will perform my duties and responsibilities with integrity, patience, collaboration and respect for the Desert Sage community. On behalf of everyone here at Desert Sage I wish a warm and energized “Welcome back!” It is going to be an outstanding year of learning, adventure, relationship building, and success.
