BCHS Principal's Communication

August 7, 2020

Hello BCHS Students and Families,

First and foremost, I want to thank you for a great first week back.  I know virtual school isn’t easy, but during my class visits (via Zoom) it was so amazing to see students and teachers interacting, learning happening, and even collaboration occurring between students on shared documents!  It is amazing to observe.  I am so grateful to our students, staff, and families for making our start to this unusual year incredible.  Thank you!

I also wanted to share a couple of pieces of information with you to make sure we are all on the same page to help our students learn.

It is so important to have our students in class on time, present, and engaged in the learning each and every day.  We are working to ensure there are breaks, changes in activities, and also off screen opportunities during the class period since a 2 hour block is a long time; however, we also need our students to make sure they are ready to learn and are actively participating in their learning.  The goal is that each of our students is growing and learning each day.

Attendance is taken by our teachers during the live Zoom sessions each period.  If a student is late or leaves early, the student is marked tardy in PowerSchools.  If a student does not show up at all, the student is marked absent. If a student is having technical difficulties, gets dropped out of Zoom, or needs support, it important that they notify their teacher through email if and when that occurs.    Communication is critical so we can support your student in the learning process.

If you need to call in an absence for your student, please call our attendance line at 623-445-8690.

Zoom is a great resource that makes live instruction possible when we can’t be on campus together.  Please make sure you are following the Zoom etiquette every class period:!  Also, please make sure you are entering your class Zoom sessions only on one device per student.  We also ask you to come in, with your camera on, so your teacher can see your face and greet you.  If a student is entering multiple times using the same user name (on separate devices) or is not showing their face on camera so the teacher can identify them, the student will be exited from the class to support a safe learning environment. If a student re-enters Zoom after being dropped off or is late to class, the student should wait in the waiting room until the teacher is able to enter them into the class.  This may take a few minutes depending on what is occurring in class so the teacher can properly verify the student upon entry.

I just wanted to remind our families that we are open from 10am-12pm to purchase meals for students.  Families that qualify for either free or reduced meals will have this benefit at no cost.  Meals are distributed at BCHS around the back of the school.  Please enter at the light and follow the drive near the football field to behind the gym.  Our staff will be able to assist you there.  To see the DVUSD meal schedule as well as other information regarding DVUSD meal service, please visit this page:

It’s a wild, wild world of technology these days.  If you or your student is needing support for their BCHS iPad, please visit our tech help page:  There is some valuable troubleshooting information here and there is also a link to submit a tech help ticket if you cannot fix the problem on your own.   DVUSD has also launched a webinar and tech resources on the district page to help you help your students:  We absolutely want you to have your technology working so you can do your best in class!

Thank you again for a great start to our 2020-2021 school year!  Have a great weekend and keep showing that Jaguar PRIDE!

Warm regards,

Mrs. Sutton, Principal

Hello Jags!

Here we go!  Tomorrow morning, wake up bright and early, get your charged up device and log in to Canvas so you can find your Zoom link for your first hour class before 7:30am.  Your teachers are so excited to meet you.    Canvas will be activated for this school year tonight at midnight, so you may not be able to see classes yet for the fall 2020 semester.  If you want to check your student schedule tonight, please log in to PowerSchools.  You can also check your @learner email through gmail to see if you have some communication from BCHS to get you going!

If you are not seeing courses tomorrow morning before school, please fill out this form and an office staff member will help you get your Zoom link: . Be sure that you are logged into your email address to access the form due to security.

If you need further assistance, please call our front office at 623-445-8600 so we can get you the best person for your needs.

Hello Jaguars!

The countdown is ticking down for Monday, August 3rd—our first day together for our virtual start to the 2020-21 school year! Your teachers are ready for you and they are all so excited to meet you!

School starts on Monday at 7:30am. Get your iPad charged up and set up your workspace so you are ready to go!

To be in class, ready to start on time, you will need to:

  1. Log into Canvas before 7:30 am
  2. Find your first hour class & click to enter
  3. Then click on the Zoom link to enter your live class (you may also have to enter the passcode)

Periods 1, 3, and 6 meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week (Schedule A).  Periods 2, 4/5, and 7 meet on Tuesday & Thursday (Schedule B) this week.  We will continue to alternate A and B days for the rest of this semester.

If you cannot find your first-hour class in Canvas or it is incorrect, please click this link for help: . Be sure that you are logged into your email address to access the form due to security.

If you need tech help or have other questions to be everything ready, please look over the letter that went home to our families on Friday, July 24th. There are many links, tips and tricks in there to get you ready for day one!  If there is a question that isn't answered, please reach out to us.  We are happy to help!

For our continuing students, you may see a fine in your student account for your iPad from last year.  Please don't worry about this, it is just because you still have in your possession from last school year, which isn't our typical practice. We will be clearing all of that up soon!

I am so excited to welcome you back to a year you will remember. Welcome to JagNation!

Looking forward,

Mrs. Sutton, Principal
