BCHS Principal's Communication- BC Communication Week One Update!8.4.23

August 4, 2023

Good afternoon BCHS families,

We had such a wonderful start to the school year this week.  I am so excited to have our Jags back to campus learning, creating, and growing.  Today we had our first “Back to School” assembly with our 9th students that focused on BCHS PRIDE, campus expectations, getting involved, and concluded with learning the BCHS Fight Song.   Our speakers from our Student Government, Jaguar Athletic Leadership Association (JALAC), and BC teacher, Mr. Donovan, shared a special message with our students about Jaguar PRIDE: being prepared, respectful, having integrity, being disciplined, and ensuring everyone is united.

While our freshman had the assembly today, our sophomores, juniors, and seniors got a copy of their current BCHS transcript and worked on a goal setting lesson with their 2nd hour teachers.  This was a good opportunity for our continuing Jaguars to look at where they want to improve or what they need to do to prepare for graduation and the world beyond BCHS.   I wanted to share all of this information with you so you have an opportunity to check in on what your student’s learned today.  It is so important that we work in collaboration to help them be successful in school each and every day.

Since today is a 90 minute early release, our teacher level teams will meet today during that time in collaboration to plan for student learning.  This includes working on aligned assessments and rubrics for the first essential standard/ skill students will learn in class.  This time is so critical in our work to support student learning!

As we move into next week and into the school year, please remind your student to keep their phone in their backpack during class so that they can focus on their learning.  Students are welcome to check their phones between classes and at lunch.  Please also remind your student before they leave home in the morning to be in school dress code (for example, no clothing items that promote alcohol, drugs, or inappropriate language/symbols.  Also, no shorts that are too short to cover behinds or shirts that expose belly buttons, bare midriffs, or that resemble or are sports bras, tube tops, or bikini tops).  While I know that dress code can be a frustrating topic, it is so important for young adults to learn and understand that there are very clear expectations for dress as we navigate work, school, the gym, athletics, activities, restaurants, et cetera.  There is a time and a place for different types of dress.  At BCHS, we expect our students to dress for school success each and every day.  Information on BCHS expectations as well as opportunities are housed in our Student/Parent Handbook if you would like more information. Your support is so greatly appreciated.

As a reminder our Meet the Teacher Night is Monday, August 7th from 6-7:30pm.  The format is an open house to allow for you to move around campus freely to meet your student’s teachers.  We always suggest to bring your Jaguar(s) so they can show you around campus and meet their teachers.  If you are coming alone, please check PowerSchool for schedules.  Our front office will also be open to assist you should you need help, and we will have students on campus handing out maps, assisting with elevator access, and providing direction.  We are excited to welcome you to BCHS!

Thank you to all of our students and staff that made our first week together amazing!   This is going to be an incredible school year!

Have a lovely weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sutton

Hello BCHS families!

I am so excited to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year!   Please read our Back to School Welcome Letter here.  It is a substantial amount of information, but I want to be sure to give you and your student the best information to support success, growth, and involvement at BCHS!  Schedules in PowerSchool will be live on July 24th so your student will be able to see their class schedule.

We can't wait until the first day of school, Monday, July 31st, 2023, so we can welcome our Jags back to BCHS!

Warm regards,

Brittany Sutton, Principal
